Rules

The rules for the overall competition are below, and the rules for each of the events are on the pages to your right.  If you have any questions please email me and/or ask me in person.

Object:
To promote continued growth and interest in the Tail Spinners Club, and RC flight through a season long competition that combines skill and scheduled meets at the club’s field.  While this is a competition and scoring will be kept and made available, remember this is for fun.

General Competition Rules and Requirements:

  1. All participants must be members of the Tail Spinners RC Club in good standing.

  2. All participants must be members of the AMA in good standing.

  3. All participants must pay the $15.00 Participation fee prior to entering in any event.  The Participation fee is not refundable.

  4. All participants need to participate in judging, spotting, and in any preparation for events.  This may be based on a rotating schedule, or a volunteer basis.

  1. The aircraft to be used for all events will be a version of the F-22 created from flat foam, designated the TSF-22.  All participating aircraft must meet the specs set forth in the TSF-22 spec sheet(s) in all aspects.

  2. Events will be held on Saturday Mornings @10:30 AM at the club field as indicated on the calendar at the club website.

  3. Sportsmanship is key to the enjoyment of this for all.  You WILL lose/crash your airplanes.  You will not be at the top all the time.  A little thick skin and the ability to win and lose with a bit of grace will greatly improve your enjoyment of this competition.  In the event that any pilot is deemed as conducting themselves in an unsportsmanlike like manner, they may be penalized event points, or even competition points.

  4. The event director, and events committee will settle disagreements.  Their decisions will be final.

  5. Competition points

    1. Will be accumulated throughout the entire season, with 11 scheduled event weekends.
    2. The winner(s) will be determined by the highest point totals.
    3. There will be 11 events, each worth a maximum of 100 points.
    4. The bottom 2 event scores for each pilot will be dropped from the total, making the maximum number of points available from events for the season 900.
    5. If you miss a weekend, you will receive 0 points, and thus it will be dropped (unless you miss more than 2 weekends).  If any pilot does miss more than two weekends, there is no provision for making lost points up.
    6. There will be 10 additional points available each event to all who help run and organize the event.  If you do not actively partake in judging, spotting, setting up event structures etc., you will not receive the 10 bonus points.
    7. With the bonus points, the maximum number of points you could possibly score for the competition is 1010.

  1. Event Points
    1. Event points are not accumulated, and are only good for scoring the event they are earned in.  These points are determined by the event rules specific to each event.
    2. If you earn 500 event points in a day’s events, and win the event, you do NOT get 500 Competition Points, you are awarded the number of points your event rank earns points per the Competition Points schedule.  Event points do NOT equal Competition Points.
    3. Event rank is determined the day of the event by the event points acquired that day.  Once the ranks have been established and the event closed, no changes to the points (event or competition) may be made.
    4. You must be familiar with each events scoring and point system before beginning the event.  If you are unsure of how you accumulate points in the event or how it will be judged you must clarify this with the event director PRIOR to the beginning of the event.

  1. Competition Awards will be awarded to the top three ranks at the 2008 Christmas Banquet.  The awards will be determined by the number of participants and cost of materials for events.

  2. Aircraft expenses – Each pilot is responsible for their own expenses, including but not limited to airframes, electronics, batteries, chargers etc.  If your plane is damaged or destroyed during any event it is your responsibility, not that of the pilot that “shot you down”, “crashed you” in a race, bumped or hit you at anytime, regardless of whether it was intentional or not.

  3. You should plan on having backup equipment available BEFORE you need it.  Events can not be delayed or postponed due to a lack of materials or planning.  There will be some breaks between events long enough to make repairs, but not long enough to go home or the store etc.

  4. Non Event flying during event times:  We will, of course, share the flying field during the scheduled event times other pilots that are not involved in the Raptor Riot.  When actual event flights are not being conducted the field is open to normal flying.  During actual event flights, non event aircraft must be grounded, until the flights are completed.  Equal flying time will be given to both event and non-event flight.

  5. Aircraft build days will be established for mass production of the airframes.  It is highly recommended that you make every effort to attend these, for the good of the whole competition along with making it much easier on all participants to build the quantity of planes that will be needed for the coming season.  If you do not participate in the building, you will need to cut and build your own airframe(s).  Airframes constructed during group build times will be available to those who helped build them first.

  6. Frequency Pins – Even though this should be a major point of concern each time you are at the field, special care will need to be taken to ensure that you have the pin for the frequency you are flying on.  We will have a higher number of planes in the air at once in some events, and in general a higher number of pilots coming to the field during event times period.
